distillery celebrated the first birthday of our San Francisco office by hosting Jessica Lawson, co-founder of Radia World (the first multi-chain web3 wallet for media & entertainment) along with clients and industry thought leaders to discuss the impact of Web3 across businesses and society at large.
Here were the top three takeaways from the discussion:
Web3 may look more like Web2.5 in practice
While decentralization is the core component of “Web3”, in reality, Jessica thinks what will make its way into the market is a blend of Web2 & Web3. “I don’t think we’ll ever become fully decentralized,” instead, Jessica foresees a world with elements of Web 2.0 intertwined with the best parts of decentralization offered by Web3 and the blockchain.
2. Content geared towards communities
Web3 allows creators and businesses alike to connect directly with their audiences, unlocking a host of possibilities. This ranges from rewarding repeat customers or clients through exclusive access to new products or personalized discounts tied to specific behaviors.
Web3 also allows customers to “own” their data no matter what application or platform they visit, creating opportunities for more seamless experiences and interoperability.
3. Understanding your audience is key
Porsche dipped its tires into the Web3 world with an NFT collection, featuring images of its iconic Porsche 911 Carrera sports car. Unfortunately, the collection was a flop with little demand or value generated from the offering. What did they miss? Porsche didn’t survey the appetite from their audience for a Web3 offering, nor did they roadmap how their project could bring value to those who purchased a piece of the collection. (Source)
Jessica joined us for the first episode of season 3 of distillery sessions for an in depth discussion on how Web3 is disrupting the future of content and marketing.

Final thought
We surveyed all attendees at the event and the majority agreed Web3 hasn’t yet reached mainstream adoption, which means we are still in an exciting period of transformation and experimentation. Stay tuned as we delve into what Web3, AI and the rest of it can mean for content at large!
